Fudgy, decadent brownies topped with a sweet and crunchy pecan topping. A perfect treat for any occasion!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups pecan halves

Instructions

  1. Melt the butter in a saucepan over low heat or in the microwave in 30-second intervals until completely melted.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the melted butter and granulated sugar until well combined and smooth.
  3. Add cocoa powder, salt, and baking powder to the wet ingredients. Whisk until well incorporated.
  4. Stir in vanilla extract. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  5. Gradually add flour to the batter, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
  6. In a medium saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add brown sugar and stir until dissolved and smooth.
  7. Stir in milk and vanilla extract. Bring to a gentle simmer, stirring constantly, and cook for about 1 minute.
  8. Remove from heat and stir in salt and pecan halves. Make sure pecans are evenly coated.
  9. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan (or line with parchment paper).
  10. Pour brownie batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
  11. Spoon pecan topping evenly over the brownie batter, spreading gently.
  12. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs attached.
  13. Let the brownies cool completely in the pan before cutting into squares.

Notes

  • Use high-quality cocoa powder for the best flavor.
  • Don’t overmix the brownie batter.
  • Use room temperature eggs for a smoother batter.
  • Check for doneness around 30 minutes.
  • Cool completely before cutting to prevent crumbling.
  • Store leftover brownies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or in the refrigerator for up to a week.
  • Customize with chocolate chips, chopped nuts, or caramel sauce.
