Lavender Chai Latte: A Cozy & Delicious Recipe

A comforting Lavender Chai Latte with homemade chai concentrate, milk, and lavender. Perfect for a cozy morning or afternoon.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup milk (dairy or non-dairy, your preference)
  • 2 black tea bags (English Breakfast or Assam)
  • 1 tablespoon loose leaf chai spice blend (or 2 chai tea bags)
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried culinary lavender buds
  • 12 tablespoons honey or maple syrup (adjust to taste)
  • Optional: Whipped cream or frothed milk for topping
  • Optional: Pinch of ground cinnamon or lavender buds for garnish

Instructions

  1. Combine water, chai spice blend (or chai tea bags), and dried lavender buds in a small saucepan.
  2. Bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat.
  3. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 10-15 minutes to infuse flavors.
  4. Add black tea bags and steep for 3-5 minutes.
  5. Remove from heat.
  6. Strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve into a heat-resistant container. Squeeze out as much liquid as possible.
  7. Choose Your Method:
  8. Stovetop: Heat milk in a saucepan over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until steaming.
  9. Microwave: Heat milk in a microwave-safe mug in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until steaming.
  10. Milk Frother: Use a milk frother according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
  11. Froth the Milk (Optional): Use a milk frother, immersion blender, or whisk to froth the milk until light and frothy.
  12. Pour the lavender chai concentrate into your favorite mug.
  13. Add honey or maple syrup to the concentrate, starting with 1 tablespoon and adjusting to your sweetness preference. Stir well to combine.
  14. Gently pour the heated milk into the mug, leaving some room at the top for the froth (if you’re using it).
  15. Top with frothed milk (optional).
  16. Sprinkle a pinch of ground cinnamon or lavender buds over the froth for garnish (optional).
  17. Enjoy!

Notes

  • Use culinary-grade lavender buds.
  • Adjust simmering time for a stronger or weaker chai flavor.
  • Be careful not to over-steep the black tea.
  • Use any type of milk you prefer (dairy or non-dairy).
  • Adjust sweetness to your preference.
  • For an iced latte, let the concentrate cool completely and pour over ice.
  • For a “dirty” latte, add a shot of espresso.
  • Store the concentrate in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
