Ingredients
Scale
1 cup milk (dairy or non-dairy, your preference!)
1/4 cup heavy cream (optional, for extra richness)
2 tablespoons lavender syrup (recipe follows)
2 shots espresso (or 1/2 cup strong brewed coffee)
Dried lavender buds (for garnish, optional)
Whipped cream (optional, for topping)
1 cup water
1 cup granulated sugar
2 tablespoons dried culinary lavender buds
Instructions
Combine water and sugar: In a medium saucepan, combine 1 cup of water and 1 cup of granulated sugar.
Add lavender buds: Add 2 tablespoons of dried culinary lavender buds to the saucepan.
Bring to a simmer: Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, stirring occasionally until the sugar dissolves.
Simmer and infuse: Reduce heat to low and simmer gently for 10-15 minutes, allowing the lavender flavor to infuse.
Remove from heat and steep: Remove from heat and let the lavender steep in the syrup for 30 minutes to 1 hour.
Strain the syrup: Strain the syrup through a fine-mesh sieve (lined with cheesecloth if available) to remove the lavender buds. Discard the buds.
Store the syrup: Pour the strained lavender syrup into a clean, airtight container and store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
Brew the espresso: Brew two shots of espresso. If you don’t have an espresso machine, use 1/2 cup of strong brewed coffee.
Warm the milk: In a separate saucepan or using a milk frother, warm the milk. If using heavy cream, add it to the milk before warming.
Add lavender syrup to the mug: Pour 2 tablespoons of lavender syrup into your favorite mug.
Pour in the espresso: Pour the brewed espresso (or strong coffee) into the mug with the lavender syrup. Stir to combine.
Add the warm milk: Gently pour the warm milk into the mug, leaving room for whipped cream. If you frothed the milk, pour the milk first, then spoon the foam on top.
Top with whipped cream (optional): Top with a dollop of whipped cream, if desired.
Garnish with lavender buds (optional): Sprinkle a few dried lavender buds on top for garnish.
Enjoy immediately: Serve immediately and enjoy!
Notes
Adjust the amount of lavender syrup to your preference.
Use your favorite non-dairy milk for a dairy-free latte.
Combine lavender syrup, espresso, and cold milk over ice for a refreshing iced latte.
Substitute honey for sugar in the lavender syrup.
Add a teaspoon of vanilla extract to the lavender syrup.
The lavender syrup can be made in larger batches and stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
A milk frother will create a light and airy foam that adds a luxurious touch to your latte.
Steeping the lavender for too long can result in a bitter flavor.
Straining the syrup through a fine-mesh sieve lined with cheesecloth will ensure a smooth and clear syrup.
