Olive Oil Bread Dip: The Ultimate Guide to Delicious Dipping

Flavorful, easy olive oil bread dip. Perfect appetizer or snack with olive oil, balsamic vinegar, garlic, Italian herbs, and a touch of spice.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup extra virgin olive oil
  • 1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon dried Italian herbs (oregano, basil, rosemary, thyme)
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (adjust to your spice preference)
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper, freshly ground
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
  • Fresh bread, for dipping (crusty baguette, ciabatta, or sourdough recommended)
  • Fresh herbs for garnish (parsley, basil, or rosemary sprigs)

Instructions

  1. Mince the Garlic: Mince the garlic cloves finely.
  2. Combine Ingredients: In a shallow bowl, pour in olive oil and balsamic vinegar.
  3. Add Spices and Herbs: Sprinkle in Italian herbs and red pepper flakes.
  4. Season: Add sea salt and freshly ground black pepper.
  5. Add Parmesan (Optional): Stir in grated Parmesan cheese, if desired.
  6. Mix Well: Stir all ingredients until well combined.
  7. Let it Sit: Let the dip sit for at least 30 minutes (or up to an hour) at room temperature to allow flavors to meld.
  8. Prepare Bread: Slice bread into 1-inch thick slices. Toast lightly if desired.
  9. Serve: Pour dip into a serving dish, arrange bread around it, garnish with fresh herbs, and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Use high-quality extra virgin olive oil for the best flavor.
  • Adjust the amount of red pepper flakes to your spice preference.
  • Letting the dip sit allows the flavors to deepen.
  • Crusty breads like baguette, ciabatta, or sourdough work best.
  • The dip can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Bring to room temperature before serving.
  • Variations: Add sun-dried tomatoes, olives, lemon zest, a pinch of sugar, roasted garlic, feta cheese, or pesto.
