Peppermint Milkshake Chick Fil A: The Ultimate Holiday Treat

Creamy vanilla ice cream blended with homemade peppermint syrup and crushed peppermint candies. A festive and delicious treat!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract (adjust to taste)
  • Pinch of salt
  • Optional: Red food coloring (gel is best)
  • 3 cups vanilla ice cream (high-quality, full-fat recommended)
  • 1/2 cup whole milk (or more, to adjust consistency)
  • 1/4 cup peppermint syrup (or more, to taste)
  • 1/4 cup crushed peppermint candies (plus more for garnish)
  • Whipped cream, for topping (optional)
  • Maraschino cherry, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine the granulated sugar and water.
  2. Place the saucepan over medium heat. Stir constantly until the sugar is completely dissolved (5-7 minutes).
  3. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer for about 5 minutes, without stirring.
  4. Take the saucepan off the heat and let it cool for a few minutes.
  5. Stir in the peppermint extract and a pinch of salt. Adjust peppermint extract to taste.
  6. Add a few drops of red food coloring (gel is best) and stir until evenly colored.
  7. Let the peppermint syrup cool completely before using it in the milkshake.
  8. Store any leftover peppermint syrup in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
  9. Let the vanilla ice cream sit at room temperature for about 5-10 minutes to soften slightly.
  10. In a blender, combine the softened vanilla ice cream, whole milk, and peppermint syrup. Start with 1/4 cup of peppermint syrup and adjust to taste.
  11. Blend the ingredients on medium speed until smooth and creamy. Add more milk if too thick, or more ice cream if too thin.
  12. Add the crushed peppermint candies to the blender and pulse a few times to incorporate them into the milkshake. Be careful not to over-blend.
  13. Taste the milkshake and adjust the sweetness and peppermint flavor as needed.
  14. Pour the milkshake into chilled glasses.
  15. Top with whipped cream and a maraschino cherry, if desired. Sprinkle with additional crushed peppermint candies for a festive touch.
  16. Serve the milkshake immediately and enjoy!

Notes

  • Use high-quality, full-fat vanilla ice cream for the best flavor.
  • Chill your glasses before serving to keep the milkshake cold.
  • Adjust the amount of milk to achieve your desired consistency.
  • Don’t over-blend the milkshake.
  • Get creative with garnishes!
  • The peppermint syrup can be made ahead of time.
  • For a dairy-free option, use dairy-free vanilla ice cream and almond or soy milk.
  • If you don’t have peppermint extract, you can use peppermint oil sparingly or infuse the milk with peppermint tea bags.
