Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ripe plums, pitted and sliced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh thyme leaves (or 1 teaspoon dried thyme)
  • 1 medium cucumber, sliced (optional for added freshness)
  • 1 lemon, sliced
  • 8 cups of filtered water
  • Ice cubes (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Wash the plums: Rinse the plums under cold water to remove any dirt or pesticides. Pat them dry with a clean kitchen towel.
  2. Slice the plums: Cut the plums in half, remove the pit, and slice each half into thin wedges.
  3. Prepare the thyme: Rinse fresh thyme leaves under cold water and strip them from the stems. If using dried thyme, measure out a teaspoon.
  4. Slice the cucumber: Wash and slice the cucumber into thin rounds (optional).
  5. Slice the lemon: Cut the lemon into thin rounds.
  6. Combine ingredients in a pitcher: In a large pitcher, add the sliced plums, thyme leaves, cucumber slices (if using), and lemon rounds.
  7. Add water: Pour 8 cups of filtered water over the ingredients in the pitcher.
  8. Stir gently: Gently stir the mixture to combine the flavors without mashing the fruit.
  9. Let it infuse: Cover the pitcher and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or overnight for the best flavor.
  10. Prepare to serve: Remove the pitcher from the refrigerator and admire the pink hue and aroma.
  11. Fill glasses with ice: Add ice cubes to each glass.
  12. Pour the infused water: Carefully pour the infused water into each glass, including some fruit and herbs.
  13. Garnish (optional): Garnish with a sprig of fresh thyme or a slice of lemon.
  14. Enjoy: Savor the vibrant colors and refreshing aroma before taking a sip.

Notes

  • Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, but best consumed within 24 hours.
  • You can refill the pitcher with more water once or twice using the same fruit and herbs, but the flavor will diminish with each refill.
  • Add slices of fresh jalapeño for a spicy kick, or experiment with other fruits like peaches or strawberries.
  • Substitute thyme with mint, basil, or rosemary for different flavors.
