Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lime, cut into wedges
  • Coarse salt (such as sea salt or kosher salt), for rimming the glass
  • 12 ounces tomato juice or Clamato juice
  • 2 tablespoons lime juice, freshly squeezed
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon hot sauce (such as Tabasco or Cholula), or more to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper, freshly ground
  • Pinch of celery salt
  • Ice cubes
  • Lime wedges, for garnish
  • Optional garnishes: celery stalk, pickled vegetables, shrimp, olives

Instructions

  1. Rim the Glass: Run a lime wedge around the rim of a glass. Pour coarse salt onto a small plate and gently press the rim of the glass into the salt, rotating until evenly coated.
  2. Combine Juices and Sauces: In a shaker or pitcher, combine tomato (or Clamato) juice, lime juice, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, and soy sauce.
  3. Season: Add black pepper and celery salt.
  4. Stir: Stir all ingredients until thoroughly combined.
  5. Assemble: Fill the prepared glass with ice.
  6. Pour: Pour the Michelada mixture over the ice.
  7. Garnish: Add a lime wedge to the rim. Optional garnishes include celery stalk, pickled vegetables, shrimp, or olives.

Notes

  • Spice it Up: Add more hot sauce or cayenne pepper.
  • Add Zing: Add a splash of orange or grapefruit juice.
  • Make it Smoky: Add a few drops of liquid smoke.
  • Use Different Salts: Experiment with smoked salt or chili lime salt.
  • Get Creative with Garnishes: Try cucumber slices, jalapeño slices, or grilled pineapple.
  • Make a Big Batch: Combine all ingredients in a pitcher and refrigerate.
  • Adjust to Taste: Add more Worcestershire sauce or soy sauce for a more savory flavor, or more lime juice for a tarter flavor.
